Elysia Escobedo

(Winter of 2022)

I am aware that art has the potential to make change and bring awareness.
My goal is to use my evolving animation skills and interest in documentary film work to bring light to issues happening on our reservations.

Right now I am building myself up. I am ambitious and ready to pursue my dreams.

Artist Statement

Throughout my years making art, I've been known as an illustrator and painter. I’ve created shirt logos and live painting performances for school. I believe the love of art has always been there for me and as I became more exposed to other art mediums, my passions grows. I don’t mind what path my artist journey takes, as long as I'm creating, I can keep going.

As much as I am determined to hone my painting skills, I want to learn animation. The technical aspects of animation interests me, possibly as an animator or storyboard artist. I’ve also worked in film and video. After every new art experience, sculptures, fashion design, photo, I get high off the inspiration.

I'm aware that art has the potential to make change and bring awareness.

My goal is to use my evolving animation skills and interest in documentary film work to bring light to issues happening on Native reservations.

Right now I am building myself up. I am ambitious and ready to pursue my dreams

Artist Biography:

I go by Elysia Escobedo, born on July 6, 2003. I grew up in Santa Clara Pueblo, but I also have family from Cochiti and Hopi Pueblos. Although I've moved around a bit in the SouthWest, the majority of my life I have lived in Santa Clara Pueblo with my family here in Northern New Mexico.

When I was about 4 years old, I remember trying to communicate with my dad through pictures I drew. In the 6th grade I won a T-shirt contest. I won the contest at a time when I had little faith in myself but as time went on, I realized that art could open doors for me and that I could communicate my stories through different mediums.
