Border Book Festival 2013 was a wonderful success!
The connection between artists, the synchronicity of their work and the theme resonated powerfully. We are grateful to Jesús Trevino,Viviana García Besné, Alistair Tremps, Nora Naranjo Morse, Rubén Martínez, The Mescalero Apache Youth Group and Sihasin, the Native American punk rock group for their incredible talent.
Border Book Festival video from Ramey Newell.
The films shown included Perdida by Viviana García Besné, Gangs and Raíces de Sangre/Roots of Blood by Jesús Trevino, Gia’s Song, Clay Being and Always Becoming by Nora Naranjo Morse, and On The Rez and Otero Mesa by the Mescalero Apache Youth group composed of filmmakers ages 14-19. Each film was a powerful testimony to the human spirit and the act of creativity and love.
The Burrito Brigade was also a great success as we served over 600 burritos. We have a Burrito Brigade T-shirt by Katya Reka and Gatis Cirulis to remember Sihasin doing a round dance on the Downtown Mall as students and community members ate burritos donated by generous sponsors Happy Dog (Russ and Mercy Smith), Andele’s (Andrea Schneider), Nopalito’s (the Gallegos family) and others. Nearly 40 Burrito Brigaders sponsored the School Outreach program that brought the Anthony Charter School, Cross Roads Academy and Academia Dolores Huerta to the Río Grande Theatre.
Thank you to all who contributed to this wonderful event!
